Creative craft ideas to do with children for Easter

Easter is a wonderful time to celebrate with family and friends, and what better way to get into the spirit of the season than by engaging in craft with your small children. From decorating eggs to cute bunnies, there are endless possibilities for creative projects that will delight and entertain. Here are some Easter craft ideas that are perfect for young children.

1) Decorating eggs

Materials: acrylic paint, flat paint brush, hard boiled eggs, cotton ball.

Step 1: Dilute the paint with water until it reaches a double cream consistency.
Step 2: Use the brush and the cotton balls to decorate your egg and create texture.
Step 3: Let it dry completely before handling.

2) Bunny Wreath

Materials: Crepe paper in shades of green, scissors, embroidery hoops in different sizes, wire and wire cutters, floral tape, glue gun, ribbon.

Step 1: Attach the two hoops together with floral tape.
Step 2: With the wire, make two bunny ears, and leave a few inches on one end and wrap the ear around the smaller hoop.
Step 3: Fold the crepe paper in an accordion style and cut out leaves.
Step 4: Use the glue gun to layer the leaves on top of each other around the hoops.
Step 5: Decorate your bunny with a ribbon of your choice.

3) Bunny party hat

Materials: Cardstock in pastel shades, scissors, twine, permanent marker, glue, craft knife and tape.

Step 1: Make the party hats using the cardstock. You can use any party hat template.
Step 2: Using a different colour cardstock, cut out two small circles for the eyes, a small triangle for the nose, long thin pieces for the whiskers.
Step 3: Glue the eyes, nose, and whiskers to the hat and with your permanent market, draw the mouth connecting with the nose.
Step 4: With a different cardstock, cut out the ears and fold approximately 1 inch from the bottom. Cut slits in each side of the hat with a craft knife and insert the ears. Secure it inside with glue.
Step 5: Attach the twine inside the hat with tape.

4) Carrot treat cone

Materials: coffee filters, orange paper, double sided tape, green craft paint, twine, a safety pin, wire hanger, paper towel and scissors

Step 1: Mix the green paint with water. Once it reaches a milk consistency, soak the filter in the mixture until you get the desired colour.
Step 2: Squeeze out the excess paint and leave the filters to dry in a flat surface or hang them with a clip. Once it dries out completely, cut out the centre of your coffee filter.
Step 3: Cut the orange paper in a triangle and roll it into a cone shape. Stick the two ends with double sided tape.
Step 4: Using the double-sided tape, attach the filter to the inside edge of the cone.
Step 5: Fill your carrot with small treats and tie the twine around the top to close.

5) Flowerpot with bunny

Materials: small flowerpot, cress, a large and a small pompom, felt, ribbon, scissors, glue

Step 1: Glue the small pompom on top of the large pompom, this will be the body and tail of your bunny.
Step 2: Use the felt to cut out the feet and using a different colour felt, cut out oval shapes for the toes, glue them into place to make the bunny’s paw.
Step 3: Glue the feet onto the large pompom.
Step 4: Place the bunny into your pot and finish it off by hiding mini eggs in the cress and tying a ribbon around the pot.

Crafts are a good opportunity for children to express their creativity, develop fine motor skills, and celebrate the season. So, gather your supplies, roll up your sleeves, and engage in this exciting activity.
